W00t guys- how much fun was last night??
Scotlands poetry festival is officially launched (yes, alrigt, its almost two months too early, but what the hell?) and how good was it?? I actually want opinions now..
I would, personally, have really loved to have read the poems as well, like afterwards.. If I could even have remember the names of the poets...?? Yeah, well.
In all fairness, Douglas Dunn really isn't a public speaker.. I think he stank at the actual speaking bit, but the reading of the poetry was rather good.
Anna Crow was indifferent in her speech style, she read and introduced well.. But I would still like to see the poems in print.
Richard Holoway was ACE! He has a really good speaking voice and it carried excellently. You could tell he was enjoying himself and the poems he chose were really good.
Yup, well, thats me..

I totally agree with your opinion on Richard Holloway, I thought he was utterly captivating and completely intriguing. And it was all said without any pretence or unnecessarily big words.
Hmm, I find it interesting that 'big' is such a small word.
I have to disagree however, on your takes on Douglas Dun and Anne Crow. Firstly, Douglas Dunn held my attention far too easily and although he struggled to hold it compared to Richard, I still felt captivated and totally inspired to read more of his poems like that of which he'd chosen. But Anne? Oh my goodness, she was intensely boring (yes, I realise the oxymoron there). And her introductions were crap! Nto only did she read them out as if it was a list of bullet points, but they seemed to be in note form too!!
What I would like to contribute is the StAnza president's moustashe. That alone made the trip worthwhile, he was an excellent host who instantly had me wanting to go to all the other readings. And then there was the first speaker, who amazed me. He spoke in wonderfully pretencious words, pushing in all the posh dude dialect that he could, but he did it all in Billy Connelly's voice!! It was fantastic, you listened to him thinking you knew what he was saying and before you knew it, you'd trealised that actually, it went right over your head. But it was okay, because he spoke with such PASSION.
